Due to the Covid-19 outbreak we do a lot of paddling ourselves; yesterday we decided to head for Pirate's Cove on DeCourcy Island. Later in the afternoon a lot of animals are getting more active especially during a low tide. We spotted River Otters, Sea Lions and also this Raccoon....I have never had one of those so close to my kayak.
We just had an unusual herring spawn in Nanaimo. Usually, this happens earlier in the year and a bit more up north. The herring creates this milky-green water and suddenly the ocean is teemed with life; California sea lions are gorging on herring and gulls and Bald Eagles try to catch the scraps. A true delight to paddle through this marvel of nature. Enjoy the video.
